2022 Trousseau

The road out the front of Rusden was a gravel track when I was a kid. In summer, the white sand would blow over it when the council grader hadn’t visited for a while, which made it a treacherous affair negotiating the sandhills and potholes on our treddlies from the top of Rocky Valley Road down the hill to the family farm. At the entry to our property we’ve established a small plot of Trousseau, we think it’s well suited to the alluvial sand and cooling afternoon breezes that make Vine Vale such a unique terroir.

Tasting Notes

Intense nose with lifted black fruit, star anise, eucalyptus and faint cedar tones. The palate shows spice, black tea, fruit cake & a liquor-soaked berry sweetness that is matched by a lingering sourness. It’s that ‘sweet vs sour’ aspect of the palate that makes this variety so interesting & unique.

Tasting Notes

2021

Darker in colour than previous years, lifted black fruit, star anise, eucalyptus and faint cedar tones dominate the nose. The palate shows an array of cherry, currants and kirsch.  Lovely acid line keeps the palate tight and long with tart red fruits flowing through to the finish.

2020

Intense nose with lifted black fruit, star anise, eucalyptus and faint cedar tones. The palate is all black fruits with cherry, currants and some plum giving way to ‘Amaro’ type herbal qualities. Lovely acid line keeps the palate tight and long with dusty tannins to finish.

2019

Somewhat earthy tones with underlying cherry, raspberry and cassis perfume. Multi-layered palate with citrus, some Amaro type herbal qualities, red currant, pomegranate & spice. Tannin matched by good acid structure and a clean lingering finish.
