Tasting Notes
2023
This is the sixth vintage of ‘School Days’ and a standout wine from the 2023 vintage. The nose is all boysenberry & cherry ripe with hints of pencil shavings ie. graphite and wood. The palate is dense with a spectrum of fruits, a lovely silky-softness and just the right amount of Viognier pressings elevate the wine. Great stuff, will have its followers!
2022
A nose of rich dark fruits, boysenberry, Turkish delight and some pencil shavings. Violet, clove and blackberry all feature on the palate. This vintage has velvet like tannins and lingering cherry ripe flavours to finish.
2021
Dark fruits, red licorice, some mocha with faint black pepper tones on the nose. Rich palate but tending more to the red fruit spectrum, raspberry, ripe cherries, satsuma plum with just enough Viognier (3%) to lift the fruit from the glass. ‘Black Tea’ like tannins feature with some grip to round out the palate.
2020
Highly aromatic with red fruits, musk and spice. Medium palate weight with, raspberry, red licorice, spice and cherry cola, all interwoven. A minuscule % of viognier adds depth to the flavour profile. Soft tannins and a core of raspberry flow through to the finish.
2019
Dense nose with rich dark fruits, hints of graphite and earthy spice. Hallmark Vine Vale stone fruit, violet, clove and blackberry on the palate. Subtle and balanced with a long smooth finish. Co- fermented goodness.
2018
Scents of dark fruit, some graphite and charcuterie on the nose. The palate shows off hallmark Vine Vale Shiraz characters of violet, stone fruits, clove and gentle apricot tones from the Viognier component. Finishes with good focus and grip. Will only get better with age.
